CHAPTER 3

Out of the office, with the details of the operation cased in the tablet, I close in on my car parked at the opposite end of the street. I will be going to the drop point, but first I must find out why Maggie, my daughter, is yet to call.

The traffic light is still in the red, so lots of cars are lined up before me. People are hustling back and forth in the street. Deciding to continue on the path I am on till I get to where my car is packed, I amble forward.

A boy with a skateboard stops before my red Nissan brings out a gadget from his pocket and begins to crack the lock.

“Hey, don’t you dear!” I say at the top of my voice, breaking into a gallop. The child share glances between me and the car, weighing his options. He decides to run for it throwing his skateboard on the floor and mounting on it. The horn of a vehicle catches my attention, and I snap to the back just in time to get run into by a young woman in a red top. My legs slid off the ground, and black dots envelop my vision as my head slams the ground.

First, I try to recollect where I am, second, I try to make sense of the situation and get up. The lady who hits me is on her feet, next to those who have gathered at the sidewalks to take a selfie. In her left-hand lies the tablet. She smiles and waves it at me before turning into the midst of bystanders.

Getting to my feet, I barrel hard after her. She and the teenage boy from earlier must be into it together to throw my mind off the target. Pursuing after her, we gallop down the street and turn to the left.

The lady in red halts before the building and smiles at me who just slammed into an old woman. Her grin widens, and she races into the building.

Glancing at the woman and finding her to be okay, I grab my firearm and charge into the building. Her footsteps greet me at the top floor, and I follow it. Soon I find myself on the roof and she standing next to the opposite edge, hands spread out, lips widen into a grin.

“Hold it right there, or I shoot. There is no escape for you. Hand the tablet over, now!”

She chuckles glancing down briefly. Something cold touches my head from behind. “You mean there is no escape for you? Trying to shoot an unarmed woman, you are a total disgrace.” another female voice greets me.

Slowly, I retrieve my stretched-out arm and move my neck to see who it is. Something hard slams into my head, and everything turns black.
